(2) Barrel grinding method

The so-called barrel grinding method is to put the processed castings, abrasives, water and additives into the barrel grinding groove, and the grinding barrel will rotate and vibrate, so that the mixture of abrasives and the processed castings will have friction, and the surface of the castings will be polished smooth and flat. It is characterized by no dust pollution, low labor intensity and no heat generation during conventional grinding. At present, Japan has commercialized barrel grinder and abrasives for grinding titanium and titanium alloy castings, other metal castings and plastics. It is confirmed by experiments that the grinding efficiency of pk series abrasive is Z high, but the surface roughness is also Z high. Although the grinding efficiency of SA and B series abrasives is not as high as PK, the surface smoothness of titanium castings after grinding is high.

Polishing

(3) Mechanical polishing

The method of polishing the surface of titanium and titanium alloys with different specifications of soft cloth wheel or black brush dipped with special polishing paste for titanium and titanium alloys. When polishing titanium castings, the contamination layer on the casting surface must be completely clear and no new grinding hardening layer occurs, which will not achieve the ideal polishing effect. High speed and light pressure are still used for polishing. The author has also tried to use green polishing paste to polish titanium and titanium containing alloy castings, and achieved ideal polishing results. Polished titanium and titanium containing alloy castings cannot be washed immediately, and must be washed only after the surface oxide film is completely formed, otherwise the surface will become dark.
